Is The State of Ukraine entitled to these objects and should they be returned to Kyiv? Or should Amsterdam\u2019s Allard Pierson Museum return them to the Crimea museums that gave the objects on loan? The exhibition was being held in Amsterdam at the very time the Russian Federation annexed Crimea. The Allard Pierson Museum didn\u2019t want to make a choice and created the opportunity to litigate the matter before the Amsterdam court. Dozens of representatives from the state of Ukraine and from Crimea flocked to Amsterdam for the hearing of this international dispute.
